Solo, Small and Mid-sized Firm Career Fair

There is no better way to connect with employers and build relationships in the community.  Last year, students secured jobs, found mentors, learned about specific fields of law, and connected with members of the bar in a relaxed setting through this event.

During the fair, attorneys will meet with students to discuss practice areas and how to effectively develop opportunities within the profession.

The fair will consist of a Table Talk portion, allowing students to briefly meet with employers and get to know more about them and their practice, as well as an Interview portion, which students can sign up for in advance. The interviews will allow for scheduled face time with employers, many of whom will be looking to fill positions.

2014 Dean John A. Knauss Marine Policy Fellowship: This fellowship provides eligible graduate students a one-year work experience on the staff of the U.S. Congress or with a Federal agency dealing with marine issues. [Application period is now open.]

2013 Marc Hershman Marine Policy Fellowship: This program places two to five graduate students or recent graduates for one year with state agencies in Olympia or Tacoma, WA, working on ocean and coastal science and management issues. [Application period opens in February or March 2013.]

1L Diversity Mock Interview Program

The key to getting any job is establishing a rapport and intelligently explaining your credentials in an interview. Fortunately, this is a learned skill. Take advantage of this opportunity to interview with local attorneys.


This event is being sponsored by the WSBA Committee for Diversity and will focus on students applying to the minority clerkship programs. It will take place on January 29th, in the CPD offices.

Interview times are available at 5:30, 6:15, and 7:00. Please email Emily von Seele to sign up for your preferred time. We will make every effort to accommodate schedules, but can make no guarantees that you will get your first choice. The event is limited to 30 students, so sign up quickly!

Peggy Browning Fund Fellowship Program

The deadline to apply for a Peggy Browning Fund Fellowship is this Friday. Details on how to apply are available at the PBF website, as is a complete list of summer fellowships.

The mission of the Peggy Browning Fund is to educate and inspire the next generation of advocates for workplace justice. The fellowship program funds positions in labor-related organizations throughout the United States.

CIA Info Session

The Central Intelligence Agency is searching for intelligent and dedicated men and women from a variety of academic backgrounds to contribute to our national security mission.  Recruiters will be conducting an information session to discuss the CIA mission, employment & internship opportunities and the employment/security clearance process. 

 All applicants must successfully complete a thorough medical and psychological exam, a polygraph interview and an extensive background investigation. US citizenship is required. A GPA of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale is required. All positions are located in the Northern Virginia/Washington DC metropolitan area.

Networking Seminar

Networking is critical in the legal community. You can learn about specific job opportunities, meet people who have career paths that inspire you, and learn about a particular practice area. Yet, many people are not comfortable with the mechanics of the networking process. In this seminar, CPD staff will address the importance of networking, environments in which networking is appropriate and fruitful, and ways that you can effectively and efficiently continue building your professional network.
