PILF Summer Grant Information Session
Monday, February 27th, 4pm, Room 309
The Public Interest Law Foundation (PILF) is a student group dedicated to promoting public interest law. PILF offers a Summer Grant Program to provide funding to Seattle University School of Law (SU Law) students who will work in summer public interest jobs that offer little or no pay.
PILF welcomes applications from all currently enrolled SU Law students who are interested in public interest summer jobs. PILF defines public interest broadly as an area of law that focuses on the representation and organization of groups and interests currently under-represented in our society. Rather than provide a rigid definition, PILF looks to the individual applicant to explain how his or her summer position will advance the public interest (as defined in the preceding sentence). The following list of public interest work that would qualify for funding is intended to provide examples rather than to narrow the possibilities: an effort directed at legal assistance for the victims of discrimination based on sex, color, race, religion, national or ethnic origin, marital status, language, sexual orientation, age, disability, or veteran status; an effort directed at meeting the civil legal needs of the poor, the disadvantaged, people with disabilities, the homeless, veterans, tenants, and those who have been deprived of their civil or human rights; environmental interest groups; prisoners’ rights projects; international human rights organizations; and consumer advocacy groups.
PILF will be hosting an info session for students interested in applying for a summer grant on Monday, February 27th at 4pm in Sullivan Hall Room 309. Application materials will be made available electronically via [link] after the info session has taken place. Applications will be due no later than April 1st—this date is a hard deadline and each applicant must submit his or her Employer Form by that time. Applications should be submitted electronically to seattleulawpilf@gmail.com.
2012 Loyola Patent Law Interview Program
Last year roughly 100 employers, 180 law schools, and 1,600 law students from across the country participated in the program. The program is entirely pre-selected, which means that students submit resumes and bid on interviews with the employers they are interested in, and employers then review the resumes of the students who bid on them and select the students they wish to interview at the program. Last year, approximately half of the participating students were selected for interviews.
Students with undergraduate or graduate degrees in engineering or a technical science should consider registering for the program. You do not need to be patent bar eligible to register, although the vast majority of employers participating in the program are seeking patent bar eligible students.
For more information on the program, please refer to the program website at http://www.luc.edu/law/career/patent_students.html.
Online student registration for this year’s Patent Law Interview Program will begin on Monday, February 13 and close on Monday, March 5.
We will be paying the $35 registration fee for our students, so you will not be charged anything when you register online.

2012 Laurel Rubin Farmworker Justice Internship
The Laurel Rubin Farm Worker Justice interns will support the advocacy of the CLS Working Families Project as it relates to farm workers including community and economic development, legislation and litigation. Working as part of a statewide outreach team, the interns will participate in efforts to educate farm workers about their basic employment rights and other relevant topics through visits to farmworker housing, presentations and meetings with community groups, and radio advocacy. The interns will also do legal research, prepare written memoranda, and assist in case planning for litigation or administrative actions on behalf of low-wage workers. Every effort will be made to provide interns with the opportunity to work on an advocacy project on behalf of an individual worker or family and therefore the intern will likely have some opportunity to work on client interviewing skills.
