Council on Public Defense Equity Forum

Please join the Council on Public Defense on Wednesday, January 10 for an Equity Forum hosted by the Council’s Race Equity Subcommittee. 

The focus of this Forum will be on elevating the voices of future BIPOC legal professionals. Over the past year, the Race Equity Subcommittee has hosted several forum discussions aimed at improving recruitment and retention of BIPOC legal professionals working in indigent defense. For this, the final forum, the Subcommittee is facilitating a discussion between these legal professionals and BIPOC law students interested in this work.

Help the Next Generation of Law Students

Give back to your community and inspire a future generation of legal professionals by volunteering for the upcoming YMCA Mock Trial Middle School Tournament.  This tournament requires volunteer raters to score and provide feedback to the students as they portray attorneys and witnesses, and law students are invited to volunteer. 

The tournament is Friday, January 26^th and Saturday, January 27^th  and takes place at the Denny Juvenile Justice Center (2801 10th St, Everett, WA 98201) with round times as follows:

Round 3: Saturday (1/27) @ 11:30am

Round 4: Saturday (1/27) @ 2pm

Please sign up for a round (or two!) and get some volunteer hours, meet other folks working with youth interested in the law, and become a part of the Mock Trial community! Washington State YMCA Mock Trial has over 70 teams (including Middle Schools!) registered for this season, meaning the program has grown by more than 20% over last year! We need as many folks as possible to be involved in tournaments and to help spread the word. Feel free to forward this sign-up link to friends and colleagues that may be available and interested*. Seattle U Career Conversations: New Beginnings

Career Conversations are monthly meetups for professionals of all levels. Once a month, alumni come together to learn and practice new skills for building and reimagining careers that align with their values, purpose, strengths, interests and practical marketplace realities.

Next week’s discussion will focus on setting intentions for 2024. Whether you are in transition, beginning a new role, or anchored in a job, it is worthwhile to begin a new year thoughtfully.  You will walk away from this session with ideas about starting strong in 2024.
