The South Asian Bar Association of Washington has put forth a $4,000 grant to a law firm (“firm”) or non-profit organization (“organization”) interested in promoting and encouraging diversity in the legal profession. SABAW’s goal through this fellowship is to encourage firms and organizations to recruit, retain and advance minority attorneys who will contribute to the diversity of the firm or organization and the legal profession.

If the firm or organization fits the below criteria and is interested in participating in the Minority Legal Fellowship sponsored by SABAW, please answer the four below questions by email to mlf@sabaw.org by August 31, 2018.  SABAW will announce the recipient of the grant by September 7, 2018.

Firm/Organization Criteria:
  • The firm must have no more than five full time lawyers on staff.  This criterion does not apply to organizations.

  1. How do you believe your firm's or organization's participation in the Minority Legal Fellowship program will benefit your work culture and the greater legal community?
  2. In the Greater Seattle legal community, what do you believe to be the greatest hurdle for minorities entering the legal job market?
  3. What specific characteristics would you look for in a prospective applicant to the Minority Legal Fellowship?
  4. Please provide us with a copy of a job description or student fellowship application, including lists of types of projects and responsibilities, and duration of the job/student fellowship.

Please provide the name, resume and contact information of the awardee candidate in your application package.  If selected, the firm or organization and individual awardee will be featured on our website and in our newsletter.  For questions and more information, please contact SABAW at mlf@sabaw.org.

Informational Interviewing

Summer can be the perfect time for students to focus on informational interviewing. Sitting down for coffee (or tea or Perrier) with attorneys is a great way to build relationships within the profession and learn about potential areas of interest. To identify contacts and put an info interviewing plan in place, visit CPD - we're here all summer to help. And review these articles on the basics of informational interviewing and how to get the most out of the experience.
