Legal Research Tune Up 2017

The Seattle University and Lane Powell law libraries are pleased to offer a legal research workshop to help law students brush up on their legal research skills for their summer employment or other summer research endeavors. The workshop will cover state and federal legislative history, regulations, and practice materials using a problem-based approach. Students will have hands-on practice working through research scenarios. Please bring a laptop.

The workshop is FREE and will be held on Thursday, May 18th from 9:30 – 11:30 am in Sullivan Hall room 109. Please RSVP by May 16th.

Making the most of your public interest internship

Free Webinar on Making the Most of Your Summer Public Interest Internship! On Wednesday, April 14^th at 12:00pm, NALP and the National Legal Aid & Defender Association (NLADA) are presenting “Top Ten Tips for a Successful Summer Internship in a Public Interest Office…and What to Avoid.” This free webinar will help law students make the most of their summer experiences in civil legal services organizations and public defenders’ offices by offering concrete tips from both public interest attorneys with extensive experience in supervising law students and law school public interest advisors who counsel students on maximizing professional development opportunities. The webinar will be led by Jennifer Thomas, Director of Legal Recruiting for the D.C. Public Defender Service, and Phyllis Holmen, Executive Director of the Georgia Legal Services Program.

The webinar will be offered live on April 14th and archived for later viewing. All students and law school career professionals who are interested in participating on April 14th should e-mail Kevin Mills, Director of Membership at NLADA at membership@nlada.org, and provide your full name, e-mail address, and a phone number. Summer Job Tips

Before you leave your summer job:
(1) Let people know you're leaving and set up lunches, coffees, etc.;
(2) Get together with fellow summer associates and buy thank you presents for the secretaries, word processors and others who made you look good this summer (and don't forget to write personal thank you notes);
(3) On your last day, drop in and say a personal goodbye to the people with whom you really connected this summer; and
(4) Feel free to send an email after you leave, asking if the deal you worked on actually happened, or the outcome of the lawsuit on which you assisted.
