2024 LOYOLA PATENT LAW INTERVIEW PROGRAM REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN! Virtual Interviews - Thursday & Friday, July 18 & 19, 2024   Loyola University Chicago School of Law is hosting the 2024 Patent Law Interview Program.  Interviews will be held virtually on Thursday & Friday, July 18 & 19.  Last year over 100 employers, 165 law schools, and over 1000 law students from across the country participated in the program.   Registration Deadline: Wednesday, March 27 at 11:59 pm Begin by reviewing participation and eligibility instructions on the Patent Law Interview Program webpage, and then register to participate here. Initial registration is easy - it requires basic contact, school, and class year information. It also includes a non-refundable $50 dollar registration fee that you will need to pay by credit card. Once you have registered, the Loyola Patent Law Program staff will send confirmation directly to the email address that you entered when registering for the program. Late registrations will not be accepted.   Student Eligibility JD Students graduating in December 2024 through May 2026 may register for the Patent Law Interview Program. Patent bar eligibility is not required, although the vast majority of participating employers are seeking patent bar eligible students, particularly rising 2Ls.    Questions about the program? Huneke Fellowship

The Huneke Fellowship is an annual program administered by the Washington State Bar Association’s International Practice Section (IPS). The Fellowship is designed to provide real-world experience, networking opportunities, and modest financial assistance to a law student interested in the international practice of law. The Huneke Fellow will also have the opportunity to work directly with practitioners in the field of international law on IPS events and logistics. 

Each year the IPS awards one Huneke Fellowship, which includes a $1,000 stipend, to a current 1L or 2L student.

Each Huneke Fellow agrees to serve as the official student liaison of the IPS for the subsequent school year and is expected to:

• Act as the chief point of contact between the IPS and the law schools;
• Assist with the planning and execution of IPS initiatives such as the Mentor-Mentee Program, the Spring CLE event, and the Annual General Meeting;
• Publicize each IPS event at all three Washington state law schools; and
• Encourage interested law students to become IPS members and apply for the following year’s Fellowship.

Any current 1L or 2L attending law school in Washington State is eligible for the Huneke Fellowship.

The Huneke Fellowship was created to honor the memory of Rob Huneke, a dedicated and highly regarded international attorney who served for many years on the Executive Committee of the International Practice Section before passing away at a young age. Rob volunteered countless hours to improve the International Practice Section and the services it provided to section members, and was highly supportive of young lawyers trying to develop an international practice. To apply for the Huneke Fellowship, please send a (i) cover letter (maximum 500 words), (ii) resume, (iii) law school transcript, and (iv) short writing sample (3-5 pages) to Elly Baxter by April 30, 2023.

The Leadership Council on Legal Diversity (LCLD) is excited to share that the 1L Success in Law School Mentoring Program is currently accepting mentees for the 2023 program year.

The 1L Success in Law School Mentoring Program is a comprehensive, no-fee initiative that helps talented students receive the guidance they need to maximize their potential, both during and after law school. Students are paired with a mentor at the top of the legal profession who takes an active, personal interest in the student's development and success.

Leadership Council on Legal Diversity 1L Mentorship Program

The Leadership Council on Legal Diversity (LCLD) is excited to offer the 2022-2023 Success in Law School Mentoring Program for 1Ls at Seattle University School of Law.  The program is launching in more than 30 cities around the country, including Seattle.  Each mentee will be paired with an experienced lawyer from one of LCLD’s member organizations.

Select “Seattle/Redmond” from the Metro Area Session dropdown menu, then enter your information.  City Lead, Mayank Prasad, Senior Corporate Counsel at Amazon Web Services, has recruited several great mentors this year. Mentors and mentees will be matched on a first come, first served basis. Don’t miss this opportunity to connect with practicing attorneys and have a mentor to guide you during law school. RSVP now to reserve your spot for the upcoming Fall Alumni Mock Interview Program!  You will be paired with an alumni practitioner for a practice interview to help you prepare for upcoming interviews and develop your interviewing skills.  Each student will have a half-hour session with an interviewer – 20 minutes of interviewing and 10 minutes of feedback. Please prepare as if it were a real interview.

Stokes Lawrence 1L Diversity Scholarship

Stokes Lawrence is pleased to offer three $1,500 tuition scholarships to first year students from diverse backgrounds; one at each of the three law schools in the State of Washington.  The goal is to promote opportunities within the profession and to encourage a dialogue around the issue of diversity in the work place.

Criteria:  The Diversity Scholarships are open to all first-year law students of diverse backgrounds who demonstrate promise for a successful career in law and are committed to community involvement.

Application:  Applicants will submit a current resume and personal essay of no more than 1000 words with the following content: description of their thoughts on diversity and/or how diversity has played a role so far in their lives; description of their community involvement.

Materials must be submitted to Dean Donna Deming no later than April 13, 2018.  Please direct questions to diversity@stokeslaw.com. 

Scholarship recipients will be announced by April 27, 2018.

WSBA Intellectual Property Scholarship

The Washington State Bar Association Intellectual Property section offers an annual $2500 scholarship to a student who has a demonstrable interest in the practice of  intellectual property law (whether litigation or transactional work) in the areas of patent, copyright, trademark or trade secret protection, arts and entertainment, advertising law, and/or the intellectual property aspects of business.

The successful student will be selected based on their overall academic record, performance in coursework related to intellectual property, and extracurricular activities, particularly those that relate to IP.  Preference will be given to upper level students.

Application Deadline and Announcement of the Scholarship

• Applications for the scholarship are due February 12, 2018
• All applications must include:
• A cover letter explaining their qualifications and merit
• Resume
• Law school transcript

If you are submitting your materials in hard copy, please bring them to the Dean’s Office on the second floor of Sullivan Hall. Scrofano Law PC Aspiring Public Defender Scholarship

Scrofano Law PC, has established a $1,500 annual scholarship for law students interested in pursuing a career as a public defender.

The Scrofano Law PC Aspiring Public Defender Scholarship has a June 1 application deadline.  The application requires a resume, transcript, and written proof of an internship or externship with a public defender's office, as well as an essay.

LSAC Writing Competition

The Law School Admission Council's (LSAC) Diversity Committee announces a writing competition to promote diversity in law schools and the legal profession on the following topic:

WHY PIPELINE PROGRAMS TARGETING STUDENTS FROM UNDERREPRESENTED RACIAL AND ETHNIC BACKGROUNDS 
ARE ESSENTIAL TO THE FUTURE OF THE LEGAL PROFESSION

LSAC is committed to fostering diversity in law schools and the legal profession. Currently, through its Diversity Committee, LSAC sponsors and funds a number of initiatives aimed at increasing the diversity of the legal profession. These initiatives include organizing national and regional pipeline workshops that promote the development of outreach and early educational programs for students from diverse backgrounds; offering grants to support diversity initiatives at LSAC-member law schools; maintaining databases and websites, such as DiscoverLaw.org, with information, resources, and programs that encourage students of color, students living with a disability, and LGBTQ students to pursue a legal career and equip them with the tools for successful admission and graduation from law school; and engaging in ongoing collaborative programs and projects with prelaw advisors and students at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACUs), and Tribal Colleges and Universities (TCUs).

For decades, studies consistently have shown that students of color, students living with a disability, and LGBTQ students are underrepresented in most law schools. As a consequence, smaller percentages of persons who represent these groups are graduating from law school and entering the legal profession. This writing competition is designed to reinvigorate the dialogue about the recruitment and retention strategies that law schools should deploy to yield a more diverse class of graduates who will enter the legal profession.

ENTRY PROCEDURES
Include a cover page with your submission. The cover should only contain the author's name, title of the paper, mailing address, law school affiliation, law school status (lL, 2L, 3L/4L), telephone number where the author may easily be reached, and an email address.

To allow anonymous evaluations, please do not put your name on the actual paper. The title on the paper must precisely match the title on the cover page that contains the identifying information described above.

JUDGING
A panel of law school faculty, legal writing instructors, and LSAC Diversity Committee members will evaluate each submission and select the winning papers. If no paper meets the standards set forth in this announcement, the panel may decide not to issue an award or publish a paper. The panel's decision will be final.

DEADLINE
All papers must be sent no later than 5:00 PM EST on Friday, March 31, 2017. No extensions will be granted under any circumstances. Papers submitted after the deadline will not be eligible for an award. All submissions become the property of LSAC, and LSAC will retain the copyright of any winning papers selected for publication.

ELIGIBILITY
Current JD candidates who are in good standing at LSAC-member law schools are invited to participate.

The length and format of the paper must adhere to the following:

• Up to 20 pages (5,000 words or less)
• 8½ by 11 inch paper
• Double spaced, 1-inch margins, Word format, 12-point font
• Endnotes written in "A Uniform System of Citation" (The Blue Book) format

Evaluation Criteria Essays will be judged according to:

• Research and use of relevant sources and authorities (cases; law review articles; other secondary sources, including, but not limited to, books, newspapers, and magazines; and empirical and sociological studies)
• Quality and clarity of legal analysis, persuasion, and writing
• Understanding, interpretations, and conclusions regarding diversity and the implications of diversity in this context
• Full compliance with all competition procedures

AWARDS
One winning paper will be selected from each of the three (3) qualifying categories of eligible students (1L, 2L, 3L/4L). Each winner will receive a $5,000 cash prize and the winning essays will be posted at DiscoverLaw.org.

In addition, one winning paper will be submitted for publication in the Journal of Legal Education or similar publication.
