The Washington State Attorney General's Office's Diversity Advisory Committee presents "We're Here to Stay" - a documentary about the history of "Hands Off Washington" and the politics of hate in Washington State. Presented by filmmaker, Liz Latham.

12 jurors needed for the American Board Of Trial Advocates Masters in Trial Seminar this Friday, 10/16. This is an excellent opportunity to network with some phenomenal attorneys and judges like Paul Luverra, Sim Osborn, Todd Gardner, and Judge Ricardo Martinez. Jurors can be law students, undergrads, retired individuals, anyone who might serve on a jury. Jurors need to be at Grand Hyatt from 9:45 am-2:30 pm and should ask for ABOTA Masters in Trial Seminar and Sim Osborn.

In Alaska, students earn four course credits, gain significant legal experience, and spend the summer under the beautiful midnight sun in Alaska. This innovative program provides internship opportunities and the nation’s only substantive law course titled, “Alaska Natives and Environmental Law”.

Brown Bag Lunch with Judge Alsdorf and Laura Murphy

Do you want to be a trial lawyer? Do you want to be a litigator? They are not necessarily the same thing. Or, perhaps, are you simply curious about the ups and downs, the joys and fears, the rewards and the prices of choosing a career in or around the courtroom?

If you are interested, come to a brown bag lunch with Bob Alsdorf and Laura Murphy at noon on 10/28 in Room 109. They have seen litigation from all sides, and will be happy to share their thoughts and answer your questions.

Laura Murphy of CPD was a trial lawyer and partner at the Carney Badley firm in Seattle. She later became Vice President and Associate General Counsel at Safeco Corporation where she managed nationwide class action litigation in addition to her corporate law duties. She was responsible for hiring outside national trial counsel and will bring a client's perspective to our discussion.

Bob Alsdorf, a Jurist in Residence here at SU, has been a trial lawyer and trial judge, and now works as arbitrator and mediator. He has worked in public service and in private practice, and at different times has been a partner in the Davis Wright Tremaine law firm, as well as heading his own small law firm for more than a decade.

Reminder - Volunteer as a witness or a juror in a mock trial for the WSBA

The Washington Young Lawyers Division of the WSBA is looking for students to volunteer as witnesses and jurors in a mock trial for its Trial Advocacy Program. Participating students will be able to connect with local practitioners and judges during the mock trial, and at a networking event afterward.

Entertainment Law Initiative Writing Competition

The GRAMMY Foundation offers the 12th Annual Entertainment Law Initiative Writing Competition. The grand prize winner receives a $5,00 scholarship and the four runners-up each receive $1,500 scholarships. All five winning articles will be published in a major law journal. The winners are also flown to Los Angeles where they are honored at the Entertainment Law Initiative Luncheon in front of an audience comprised of some of the top entertainment attorneys in the country. The winners also attend GRAMMY week events including the GRAMMY Awards telecast, and the MusiCares Person of the Year Tribute.
