Spring OCI Open for Student Applications

 

SPRING ON-CAMPUS INTERVIEWING (OCI) STUDENT APPLICATION PERIOD NOW OPEN! APPLICATION DEADLINE: Tuesday, February 20 @ Noon Find this year’s opportunities under the OCI tab in Symplicity   What is Spring OCI? Spring OCI is an annual hiring program open to 1Ls, 2Ls, 3Ls, and LLM students. Many employers use Spring OCI to hire for Summer 2024 positions for 1L and 2L students. Other employers have posted potential school year and post-grad positions for 3Ls and LLMs. 26 employers are currently participating in the program and employer registration is still open. Make sure to routinely check for any new employers joining.   How Do I Apply? Students apply to Spring OCI positions through Symplicity. Log in and access the 2024 Spring OCI opportunities through the OCI tab; you will be able to view the opportunities specific to your class level. Once you identify opportunities you are interested in, you will apply to each opportunity individually. You will upload your application materials to Symplicity and then can submit them to each specific opportunity.   What is the Spring OCI Timeline? The student application period is now open and will close on Tuesday, February 20 @ noon. After the deadline closes, employers will receive application materials for review. Students will be alerted of interview offers on Wednesday, February 28 and will have until Noon on Thursday, February 29 to sign up for an interview. Interviews (either in-person at school or virtually) will be held March 5 – 7.  *Note: if an employer is marked as ‘Resume Collect’ that means they will interview according to their own timeline and will directly contact selected students themselves.   Your Application Materials Matter! The materials you submit to an employer serve as your first impression. Make sure it’s a good one! Work with a CPD counselor on your materials and start by reviewing CPD’s Preparing Materials page and aligning your materials with our suggestions and guidance.   CPD Document Review Policy Reminder Our goal is to review and return your documents with comments and suggestions as quickly as possible. During peak OCI (like now) we receive significantly more requests and may require up to 5 business days to provide feedback. Be sure to plan ahead and allow ample time to receive and implement our feedback before a deadline.   How Do I Download My Transcript? Some employers will request that you submit your law school transcript as part of your application materials.  Unless otherwise specified, an “Unofficial Transcript” is appropriate. Clerkships in Alaska for the 2024-25 Term

Each fall, a representative from the Alaska Supreme Court visits our campus to interview candidates for post-graduate judicial clerkships throughout the Alaska Court System, which includes the Alaska Supreme Court, Courts of Appeals, and local courts in boroughs throughout the state. 

In early October, Justice Dario Borghesan will come to Seattle U to interview. If you're a Seattle U Law alum or student who will have graduated by summer 2024 and would like to be considered for an interview for a position at any level of court in Alaska, please contact Dean Fullner for details on how to apply.

Transportation Security Administration Chief Counsel Office

The Transportation Security Administration is seeking to hire multiple entry-level and experienced attorneys at its headquarters in Springfield, VA (within the National Capital Region) and a number of offices nationwide. TSA Chief Counsel Office is hiring for the following practice groups: Labor & Employment Litigation; Employment, Civil Rights, Labor Policy and Ethics; and Field Operations. 

Depending on experience level, selectees will be hired starting at the General Schedule (GS)-11 equivalent pay band up through the GS-15 equivalent level. The position has promotion potential to the GS-15 level. DHS offers generous employment benefits, to include a flexible telework schedule.

This event takes place on Friday, March 31, 2023, and is open to all law students and attorneys interested in legal jobs in small towns and rural areas of Washington State. The event is hosted by Gonzaga University School of Law, in partnership with the WSBA Small Town & Rural Practice Committee, Seattle University School of Law, and University of Washington School of Law.

There is no cost to register. Monday, March 13 is the deadline for job seekers to register and Wednesday, March 15 at noon is the application deadline. 

Registration is a two-step process and must be completed in order. 

Step 1: Register via Microsoft Forms here. 

If you are a current student, you must register with your official law school email address (@lawschool.gonzaga.edu, @uw.edu, @seattleu.edu, etc.)  

Step 2: Apply for Jobs (by noon on March 15).

If you are not a Gonzaga Law student, your registration from Step 1 will also serve as an application for a ZagLAW account. Within 2 business days of completing your registration, Gonzaga Law will confirm your information and send you an email with your log in information. Description: To advance the FCBA's mission of fostering meaningful diversity and inclusion in the legal profession, the FCBA Diversity Pipeline Committee created two groundbreaking programs - the Diversity Pipeline Program (DPP) and the TMT Law & Policy Certificate Program - to attract, develop, and support diverse, first year law students from historically underrepresented and disadvantaged groups in pursuing legal careers in TMT law and policy.  

In its first year, the DPP received 100 student applications from 28 law schools from across the country, facilitated 19 paid internships with DPP employer participants, comprised of law firms, companies, trade organizations and non-profit organizations, and held over 30 hours of substantive instructional sessions for students pursuing the TMT Law & Policy Certificate. Year 2 of these programs has been another great success. After receiving almost 120 applications and holding 60 interviews, the Pipeline Program was able to place 30 first year law students in summer internships with 27 different employers – a >50% increase from year one. This year FCBA intends to further raise the bar.

In this informational webinar, tech bar leaders and inaugural diversity pipeline program interns will share their perspectives on the first two years of the DPP and the importance of diversity in the law and legal opportunities in TMT.  FCBA DPP committee chairs will share details on the purpose, timeline, and application process for summer 2023 internships.

Please note: a new Cyber Fellowship was recently added to the list of opportunities through the HP. This Fellowship will provide selected attorneys the opportunity to handle emerging national security and criminal cyber threats, while rotating through multiple Department components that protect the nation from cyber threats, including the Criminal Division, National Security Division, and U.S. Attorneys’ Offices.

US DOJ Cyber Fellowship

The U.S. Department of Justice just added a new Cyber Fellowship to the Attorney General’s Honors Program (HP) this year. The three-year Cyber Fellowship will provide selected attorneys the opportunity to handle emerging national security and criminal cyber threats, while rotating through multiple Department components that protect the nation from cyber threats including the Criminal Division, the National Security Division, and the U.S. Attorneys Offices.

Through this unique opportunity, Fellows will handle a broad range of the cyber cases handled by the Department to provide them with a comprehensive understanding of the Departments response to emerging and critical threats. Fellows can expect to investigate and prosecute state-sponsored cyber threats; transnational criminal groups; infrastructure and ransomware attacks; and the use of cryptocurrency and money laundering to finance and profit from cyber-based crimes.

Incoming Fellows must agree to a three-year commitment to the program and be able to secure a Top Secret security clearance.  All Fellows will be based in the Washington, D.C. area.  Fellows may be extended or converted to permanent without further competition or reapply to the Honors Program in a subsequent year provided they meet eligibility criteria.  Alternatively, as they approach the end of their three-year term, Fellows may apply to permanent positions within the Department that align with their interest.

HOW TO APPLY: The Cyber Fellowship has been added to the online Honors Program application "Components of Interest" screen as an informal participant to permit interested applicants who have not yet submitted their application to apply. Honors Program applicants who wish to apply but already submitted an application, should simply follow these steps.

• Log back in to their online account and, in the "Action" column, select the red "Withdraw" button. 

• The system will ask them to confirm that they want to withdraw their application. 

• Once they confirm, they can go back in to their application to make any changes necessary by clicking the "Continue Application" button in the upper right portion of the browser screen.  Be sure to select “save and continue” to retain changes.

• They MUST re-certify and re-submit their application prior to the application deadline - go through the same Certify & Submit process they did when first submitting their application. 

• If they have questions relating to modifying their application or experience technical difficulty, click the "Live Chat" button to the right side of the browser.

As a reminder, the deadline for law students and eligible graduates to submit their applications is Wednesday, September 8, 2021, at 11:59 PM ET.

Opportunities with the Washington State Attorney General's Office

Each fall the Office of the Attorney General conducts an Honors Program during which the AGO entertains applications from third-year law students and judicial clerks.  At the end of this process, the office extends offers of Assistant Attorney General positions to approximately 5 applicants.  In addition to the Honors Program for third-year law students, the AGO is recruiting second-year law students interested in serving as a volunteer law clerk next summer.

For 3Ls:  To apply and be considered for an Assistant Attorney General position commencing next fall via the Honors Program, interested applicants will need to apply by visiting the posting located HERE and follow the application directions.  The deadline to apply is August 22, 2021. Applications will be reviewed and invitations to interview will then be extended. 

For 2Ls:  To apply and be considered for a volunteer law clerk position next summer via the 2L Fall Law Clerk Recruitment Program, interested applicants will need to visit the posting and apply directly to it.  A link to the 2L posting is HERE.  The deadline to apply is September 6, 2021.  Applications will be reviewed and invitations to interview will then be extended.

Skadden Fellowship Information

The Skadden Fellowship provides two years of funding for recent law school graduates to work in the public interest, addressing the civil legal needs of people living in poverty in the US. 

The Skadden Foundation has recently posted the updated Fellowhip application, along with updated FAQs, on the website's application process page. The Skadden Fellowship application will be due on September 14, 2020. 

The Foundation encourages applications from individuals who are members of groups that historically have been underrepresented in the legal profession, as well as from those whose personal or professional experiences have yielded deep connections with or insights into the marginalized client communities they seek to serve.
