Equal Justice Works Summer Corps 2011

Equal Justice Works Summer Corps is an AmeriCorps-funded program that in 2011 will provide 700 law students with the opportunity to earn a $1,132 Segal AmeriCorps Education Award for dedicating their summer to a qualifying legal project at a nonprofit public interest organization. The award application goes live on March 16, and applications are due by April 5. Last year seven SU students took home this educational award - you can too!

Symetra Financial: 1L Summer

DC Jobs

There's a new, great reason to apply for summer jobs in DC this year: You may take the Seattle U Law School's DC class this summer AND take advantage of the housing arrangements set up by SU in DC.

If you can find a position that you want in DC, apply! It does not have to be one of the programs already connected to SU's DC program. Just be sure to let Shawn Lipton know that you want to participate in the housing and class.

Office of the US Trade Representative

The Office seeks 15-20 students, including 1Ls and 2Ls, for it sSummer Student Internship Program. In Summer 2010, 34 students were selected out ofo approximately 500 applicants; 12 were law students. Commit 6-8 weeks, from May to August. Dates are flexible; split summers are discouraged. Based on need, interns will be placed in one of the following DC offices: General Counsel; Congressional Affairs; Western Hemisphere; Europe and the Mediterranean; Japan; China; Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation; World Trade Organization and Multilateral Affairs; Industry; Agricultural Affairs; Public Affairs; Intergovernmental Affairs; Environment and National Resources; Services, Investment and Intellectual Property; as well as in the Geneva office.

Required: US Citizen; pass a security clearance

Submit resume, cover letter (stating availability, approximate number of hours per week, reason for applying and expectations, as well as particular areas of interest within USTR). A writing sample may be required at a later date. Deadline is March 15, 2011 for Summer 2011. Interviews are conducted in person (preferred) or telephonically for out-of-area candidates. Offers are typically extended within 6-8 weeks of application.

Summer Externships - U.S. Attorney for the District of Idaho

SEC Honors Program for Summer: 1L & 2L

The SEC is stepping up hiring in its Honors Program. Apply now through November 15!

The Summer Honors Law Program gives law and JD/MBA students the opportunity to become acquainted with the regulation of the securities markets and careers within the Commission.

Students have the opportunity to work for ten weeks during the summer at the Commission's Washington, D.C., headquarters or in one of its 11 regional offices nationwide including: New York, Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Denver, Fort Worth, Los Angeles, Miami, Philadelphia, Salt Lake City, and San Francisco.

Selection for employment is based on many elements of a candidate's background including academic achievement, law review or moot court experience, legal aid and clinical experience, and summer or part-time legal employment.

2010 Equal Justice Works Conference and Career Fair

Attention all 2Ls and 3Ls!

If you are committed to or exploring the possibility of a career in public interest or with the federal government, please consider attending the upcoming Equal Justice Works Conference and Career Fair. Coinciding with this event, SU Law will be hosting its Second Annual networking event for all student attendees and D.C.-area SU Alumni. This is a great way to get an instant network of contacts in D.C.

This year's Career Fair will be the weekend of October 22-23 in Bethesda, Maryland. CPD and AtJI will be offering scholarship reimbursements of up to $250 for your attendance at the Conference and Career Fair and the SU Student-Alumni networking event, to take place on Thursday, October 21.

If you are interested in attending, please make note of the following important dates:

• Monday, August 30 - EJW registration opens. This is the first opportunity to see which employers will be participating in this year's Fair. Please do not register for the Fair until you have heard that you are receiving the CPD/AtJI reimbursement.
• Tuesday, September 7 - Applications for SU stipend due to Stacey Lara-Kerr (slara@seattleu.edu) by NOON. Please submit a one page statement of interest detailing your interest in attending the Fair.
• Wednesday, September 8 - Applicants for the stipend will be notified whether they have received the stipend by this date.
• Friday, September 24 - All applications to interview for positions at the Fair due to EJW. Additional information about the application process and important dates is available.
