Peggy Browning Fund Fellowship Program

The deadline to apply for a Peggy Browning Fund Fellowship is this Friday. Details on how to apply are available at the PBF website, as is a complete list of summer fellowships.

The mission of the Peggy Browning Fund is to educate and inspire the next generation of advocates for workplace justice. The fellowship program funds positions in labor-related organizations throughout the United States.

Equal Justice Works Summer Corps applications open March 1

Equal Justice Works Summer Corps provides law students with the chance to spend their summer working on a legal project at a qualifying nonprofit public interest organization or public defender office of their choosing. Summer Corps members expand the delivery of critically needed legal assistance in low-income and underserved communities across the country on a broad range of issue areas. TEN SU students received the educational award in 2011.

Summer Corps will begin accepting online applications for the 2012 program on March 1, 2012. The deadline to apply is March 23, 2012 at 11:59 p.m. EDT. Late or incomplete applications will not be accepted.

Summer Corps is an AmeriCorps-funded program that in 2012 will provide 711 law students with the opportunity to earn a $1,175 education award voucher for dedicating their summer to a qualifying legal project at a nonprofit public interest organization.

ABA John J. Curtin Summer Legal Intern stipend applications available

The Curtin Justice Fund Legal Internship Program is managed jointly by the ABA Commission on Homelessness and Poverty and the Standing Committee on Legal Aid and Indigent Defendants. The Program will pay a $2,500 stipend to three law school students who spend the summer months working for a bar association or legal services program designed to prevent homelessness or assist homeless or indigent clients or their advocates. The Legal Internship Program will provide much-needed legal assistance to organizations serving the under-represented and give students direct experience in a public interest forum. Through this, it aims both to help homeless clients and to encourage careers in the law that further the goals of social justice.

Equal Justice Works Summer Corps 2011

Equal Justice Works Summer Corps is an AmeriCorps-funded program that in 2011 will provide 700 law students with the opportunity to earn a $1,132 Segal AmeriCorps Education Award for dedicating their summer to a qualifying legal project at a nonprofit public interest organization. The award application goes live on March 16, and applications are due by April 5. Last year seven SU students took home this educational award - you can too!

DOJ Volunteer Positions

The Environmental Enforcement Section of the Department of Justice plans to recruit 1L and 2L volunteer summer interns at the Northwest Public Interest Job Fair, here at Seattle University on February 4.

Goldmark Equal Justice Internship for Summer 2011

The Goldmark Equal Justice Internship is a paid summer internship, which this year will be hosted by by Seattle Community Law Center. The intern selected will assist SCLS in their advocacy on behalf of people with physical and mental disabilities.

The internship program is named for Charles A. Goldmark, the Legal Foundation of Washington’s second president at his untimely death in January 1986. Chuck was a firm believer in, and a forceful advocate for, equal access to the justice system. The internship was created as a tribute to Chuck and to encourage young lawyers to emulate his ardent commitment. The Goldmark Equal Justice Internship is made possible by a matching grant from the Goldmark Family Foundation.

PSLawNet's Finding and Funding International Public Service Opportunities

Hot off the e-presses is PSLawNet's 2010-11 version of Finding and Funding International Public Service Opportunities, a terrific resource edited annually by the fine folks at law schools of the University of Arizona, University of Georgia, and the College of William and Mary. This resource includes tips on searching for international opportunities, international opportunities in U.S. government offices, and identifying NGO and not for profit organizations of interest.

EJW Summer Corps - deadline THIS Friday!

The Summer Corps 2010 application is now open! The online application is open until April 16. Summer Funding for Public Interest Internships

EJW Summer Corps is an AmeriCorps-funded program that in 2009 provided 373 law students with the opportunity to earn a $1,000 education award voucher for dedicating their summer to a qualifying legal project at a nonprofit public interest organization. 10 SU students received this last summer! As a 2010 Summer Corps member, you will:
• Have access to Equal Justice Works’ network of alumni, experience and expertise as the nation’s largest provider of public interest opportunities for law students and attorneys;
• Serve a minimum of 300 hours at a nonprofit public interest organization of your choosing;
• Earn a $1,000 AmeriCorps education award voucher upon completion of 300 hours of service
that can be used to pay current educational expenses or qualified student loans;
• Gain first-hand experience and legal skills in areas such as client intake, representation and
legal research and writing; and
• Become an official member of AmeriCorps, one of the largest national service networks in U.S.
history.
Equal Justice Works aims to promote Summer Corps members who demonstrate innovation in meeting the needs of a marginalized community through the Summer Corps Standout program.

QLaw Summer Grant Applications now available!

Applications for the 2010 summer grant are now available online. CLICK HERE to download an application. Applications are due March 19, 2010. For more information about the application process, contact summergrant@q-law.org.

The QLaw Foundation Summer Grant Program funds innovative public interest projects that benefit the GLBT community and/or people living with HIV/AIDS. Past grantees include Melissa Nystrom (GLBT Community Center), Sarah White (Northwest Women’s Law Center), Ashland Johnson (Lambda Legal), and Adrien Leavitt (QLaw Foundation Legal Clinic).
Projects and Organizations. Students are encouraged to create their own projects and connect with sponsoring organizations well in advance of the application deadline. The QLaw Foundation offers applicants a list of potential sponsors that have projects addressing issues relevant to LGBT rights or the rights of people with HIV/AIDS. These organizations are existing 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organizations or government agencies with staff attorneys who are qualified and available to supervise the student.

Volunteers. Meetings are typically on the first Monday or Tuesday of every month, either noon telephonic meetings or evening in person meetings. Contact summergrant@q-law.org for details.

Sponsoring Organizations. The grant committee seeks potential sponsoring organizations to list in the 2010 Grant Application. If you are a legal organization or part of legal organization interested in formulating a project focused on the civil rights of GLBT persons or persons with AIDS/HIV and might be interested in hosting a QLaw grantee for the summer of 2010, please contact Summer Grant Subcommittee Chair James Spencer, at summergrant@q-law.org for more details.

Qualifications. Law students who seek summer internships promoting LGBT rights or the rights of persons living with HIV/AIDS may apply. The QLaw Foundation values diversity and encourages all interested students to apply. QLaw Foundation specifically encourages applications from:

Students attending Washington state law schools or those seeking internships for the benefit of Washington state residents.
