Rural Practice: Small Towns, Big Opportunities Virtual Hiring Event – March 31

2023 JOB SEEKER INSTRUCTIONS

Law student and attorney job seekers may now begin registering for the 2023 Rural Practice Virtual Hiring Event. This event takes place on Friday, March 31, 2023, and is open to all law students and attorneys interested in legal jobs in small towns and rural areas of Washington State. The event is hosted by Gonzaga University School of Law, in partnership with the WSBA Small Town & Rural Practice Committee, Seattle University School of Law, and University of Washington School of Law.

There is no cost to register. Monday, March 13 is the deadline for job seekers to register and Wednesday, March 15 at noon is the application deadline. 

Registration is a two-step process and must be completed in order. 

Step 1: Register via Microsoft Forms here. 

If you are a current student, you must register with your official law school email address (@lawschool.gonzaga.edu, @uw.edu, @seattleu.edu, etc.)  

Step 2: Apply for Jobs (by noon on March 15).

If you are not a Gonzaga Law student, your registration from Step 1 will also serve as an application for a ZagLAW account. Within 2 business days of completing your registration, Gonzaga Law will confirm your information and send you an email with your log in information. If you do not receive this email within 2 business days, please email lawcareers@gonzaga.edu.  

Once you have an account, select “OCI and Job Listings” from the left-hand menu, and apply to jobs listed under the “2023 Rural Practice Career Fair” OCI.

Pre-Register for the National LGBTQ+ Bar Spring Virtual Career Fair

The National LGBTQ+ Bar, sponsor of the Lavender Law® Conference and Career Fair held each summer, is launching a new program this spring! This entirely virtual career fair will host smaller firms, as well as local nonprofits and government agencies from medium markets around the country.

The anticipated date for the program is Saturday, March 11, 2023. It is geared toward students who are looking for smaller regional firms, an opportunity to practice in or close to their hometown or school, or a niche area of practice in a boutique firm setting.

All LGBTQ+ law students are invited to this event. Small employers from throughout the country will be recruited to participate; however, the outreach will focus on employers in the following cities: Albuquerque, Atlanta, Austin, Boston, Charleston, Dallas, Indianapolis, Kansas City, Las Vegas, Minneapolis, Nashville, New Orleans, Philadelphia, Phoenix/Tempe, Portland (OR), Raleigh/Durham, Seattle, San Diego, and South Florida.  Most recruiting law firms at this virtual fair will have 50 or fewer attorneys.

Office of Attorney Recruitment and Management Summer Programs

The Office of Attorney Recruitment and Management (OARM) will host three programs for students and eligible graduates over the summer:

·      A Wednesday Webinar Series for law students and eligible graduates to hear directly from DOJ components participating in the Attorney General’s Honors Program and learn more about their work and what they look for in an applicant (see below for details).

·      The U.S. Department of Justice Career Information Fair, Thursday, July 11, 2019, at 3:00 PM EST. The annual Career Information Fair is an opportunity for law students interested in the Honors Program (HP), Summer Law Intern Program (SLIP), and volunteer legal internships to learn more about the many offices and components at DOJ.  There is no interviewing at the fair, but attendees meet attorneys from throughout the Department and can ask questions.  The RSVP opens on June 19, 2019 at 12:00 PM EST.

Veteran's Legal Career Fair

We invite you to participate in the 2018 Veterans’ Legal Career Fair! This year, we are excited to share with you our NEW Location, NEW Format and NEW Online Resources we have added to this unique ONE DAY event! Date: Friday, September 21st, 2018 Where: Ritz Carlton, Washington, D.C. Once again, we will match employers seeking to hire exceptional, experienced legal professionals with lawyers who have served in the U.S. military, are transitioning out of military service, or are military spouses. Our goal is to help first-rate candidates who have received unique training, skills and legal insights through their military service connect with top employers. In addition to attending and interviewing at the Veterans Legal Career Fair, you will be able to search within the veteran legal community year-round with our VLCF Online Job Board. Veterans, active military and military spouses will now be able to access participating employers active positions posted throughout the year and connect directly. Over the past three years, over 150 candidates and over 40 employers have participated every year. This event cannot be a success without your help. 2014 Lavender Law® Conference & Career Fair

The Lavender Law Conference & Career Fair will take place on August 21, 2014 at Sheraton Time Square in New York. The Continuing Legal Education Conference will take place August 22-23.

 

Lavender Law is attended by 1,600 legal professionals every year. More than 450 law students are given the opportunity to speak with more than 150 recruiters at the career fair. The continuing legal education conference features more than 40 workshops discussing topics such as LGBT athletes, criminal justice/prisons and updates in transgender law.

 

Lavender Law recruiters come from across the country and represent law firms, Fortune 500 companies, government agencies, and non-profit organizations. View a current list of recruiters.

For those who cannot afford to attend the career fair, the LGBT Bar offers a limited number of Law Student Scholarships to students who cannot otherwise attend. Scholarships cover the cost of registration only. Room block rates are available for the conference hotel.

5th Annual Solo, Small & Mid-Sized Firm Fair Updates

The Small Firm Fair info on Symplicity now lists the more than 40 firms and organizations that will be participating in Thursday's Fair. Check out the list this weekend and begin your research!

We'll no doubt add additional firms and organizations next week, so check Symplicity for updates regularly. As we learn which firms are opting for resume collects we'll include that info on Symplicity as well, but be sure to be proactive: don’t limit yourself to only those firms collecting resumes. This is an excellent chance to make connections for the future, be sure you talk with attorneys from as MANY LAW FIRMS as possible.

The purpose of this Fair is to give you an opportunity to network with and gain knowledge from the 40+ firms and organizations in attendance. Do your due diligence and come prepared with strong questions for the attorneys.

On the day of the event please arrive in interview dress with resumes on hand. When you enter Campion Hall for the Fair, check in at the student registration table to get a nametag before proceeding to the ballroom.

2010 Equal Justice Works Conference and Career Fair

Attention all 2Ls and 3Ls!

If you are committed to or exploring the possibility of a career in public interest or with the federal government, please consider attending the upcoming Equal Justice Works Conference and Career Fair. Coinciding with this event, SU Law will be hosting its Second Annual networking event for all student attendees and D.C.-area SU Alumni. This is a great way to get an instant network of contacts in D.C.

This year's Career Fair will be the weekend of October 22-23 in Bethesda, Maryland. CPD and AtJI will be offering scholarship reimbursements of up to $250 for your attendance at the Conference and Career Fair and the SU Student-Alumni networking event, to take place on Thursday, October 21.

If you are interested in attending, please make note of the following important dates:

• Monday, August 30 - EJW registration opens. This is the first opportunity to see which employers will be participating in this year's Fair. Please do not register for the Fair until you have heard that you are receiving the CPD/AtJI reimbursement.
• Tuesday, September 7 - Applications for SU stipend due to Stacey Lara-Kerr (slara@seattleu.edu) by NOON. Please submit a one page statement of interest detailing your interest in attending the Fair.
• Wednesday, September 8 - Applicants for the stipend will be notified whether they have received the stipend by this date.
• Friday, September 24 - All applications to interview for positions at the Fair due to EJW. Additional information about the application process and important dates is available.

Northwest Public Service Career Fair Information Now Available

The Northwest Public Service Career Fair website is now active!

If you are interested in government or public interest, you should plan to attend the 2010
Northwest Public Service Career Fair. CPD, along with ten other law school career services, will be hosting the Career Fairs in Seattle on Friday, February 5, 2010 and in Portland on Saturday, February 6, 2010.

Complete details about the Career Fairs and the employers that are participating are available
on-line. You may view the list of employers on the website prior to paying your registration fee. Please note that employers are added on a rolling basis, so it is criticial to check the employer list frequently for additions.

Student registration is now open. Registration fees are $15 for one location, or $25 for both
locations. Registration will remain open up to the Career Fair - however, remember if you are
submitting application materials for an employer, you must be registered and have paid your
registration fee prior to the deadline date, which is Monday, January 18, 2010.

Many of the participating employers are recruiting for law clerks and/or attorneys and will be
conducting interviews either at the Career Fair, or will schedule interviews for a later date at
their office. To be considered for an interview, you must register for the Career Fair, as well
as submit a cover letter and resume (for each employer you wish to apply to) by 11:59 pm
January 18th. If you choose to participate only in Table Talk, you may register up until the Career Fair. Complete details about the application process is available on the website.

Equal Justice Works Scholarship DEADLINE CHANGE

This year's Career Fair will be the weekend of October 24-25 in Washington, D.C. CPD and AtJI will be offering scholarship reimbursements of up to $250 for your attendance at the Conference and Career Fair and the launch of the SU Law Alumni Chapter, to take place on Thursday, October 22.

**Please note that the deadline to apply for the scholarship to attend has changed: it is now Friday, September 4 at noon.**
Applicants must submit a one page statement of interest and resume to Stacey Lara-Kerr (slara@seattleu.edu) by deadline to be considered for the scholarship. We will make every effort to inform applicants that they have recieved the scholarship as soon as possible.

The list of employers participating in this year's career fair is now posted on the EJW Symplicity page. This is NOT SU Symplicity - you must register for EJW Symplicity seperately. Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the registration instructions and tips. Employers are accepting applications on a rolling basis, so APPLY EARLY to positions of interest. The deadline to apply for positions is Sept. 14 at 11:59 pm EDT. Please do not wait until then to apply for positions! In the past, demand on the last day to apply caused very long wait times for documents to upload and convert, which resulted in some students being unable to apply by the deadline. You may apply to an employer before you register for the conference.

Equal Justice Works Conference and Career Fair

If you are interested in a career in public interest, you are likely familiar with Equal Justice Works. EJW strives to mobilize and prepare the next generation of attorneys committed to equal justice. The EJW Conference and Career Fair will be Saturday, Oct. 24, and Sunday, Oct. 25 in Washington, D.C. If you are interested in working in public interest in other regions of the country, you should consider attending the Conference and Career Fair. This year, CPD and AtJI will cover the registration fee and reimburse up to 15 students up to $250 for expenses incurred to attend the event and a SU in D.C. Alumni event on the Oct. 22 (a $200 reimbursement will be available to students attending only the Conference and Career Fair).

To apply for the reimbursement stipend, please submit a resume and one page statement of interest regarding why you want to attend the conference/career fair to Stacey Lara-Kerr in CPD by Thursday, Sept. 10.
